Can I choose who I live with?

Yes, you need to provide details of people you wish to live with on your application
form and similarly they will need to put your name on their application when they
apply so that we can link your applications.

Do you accommodate 2 and 3 year students and graduates?

CSH accommodates students of all ages, at any stage of their studies.

Can I view the accommodation before moving in?

Yes, by prior appointment with your Student Accommodation Team. Please note that
it might not be possible to show you your allocated room. In which case you will be
shown a similar one.

How big is the bedroom?

All room sizes vary at the different locations, but generally room sizes are follows:
Single Room (En-suite facilities) Bedroom 2.4m b 5.1m
En-suite shower room 1.4m by 2m)

Can I request to move into a flat which is single sex only?

Yes, you can. You need to stipulate on your application form that you require single sex accommodation and CSH will endeavour to fulfil your request, but cannot guarantee this.

Will my security deposit be protected?

Your security deposit will be protected by The Deposit Protection Service (Tenancy Deposit Scheme).

Do you have a launderette on site?

Coin operated washing machines and driers are present at most of CSH’s student accommodation. Laundrettes are open 7 days a week, until late a night and the rest of the accommodation has washing facilities within the communal kitchens.

Who is responsible for the cleaning?

Corridors and stairwells are cleaned daily by a team of Cleaners on site, but residents are responsible for cleaning their own study bedrooms and are also expected to keep kitchen areas clean and tidy. Kitchen areas are regularly inspected by CSH’s Student Accommodation Team’s staff.

What items do I need to bring with me?

Students are required to bring their own bedding, towels, coat hangers, cooking utensils (including cutlery and crockery), irons, cleaning and washing products, dish clothes, tea towels, food etc.).

What equipment is available in the kitchen?

Each kitchen has a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, (some kitchens also have a kettle), an ironing board (Iron not supplied), mop and bucket, brush pan and brush,
kitchen bin, hoover.

Are there any items I shouldn’t bring with me?

Items which are not permitted include: candles, incense sticks, tea lights, oil heaters, fairy lights, chip fryers, laser pens, also large items of furniture or equipment are not allowed in Halls of Residence for health and safety reasons and fire safety reasons.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are not permitted in CSH’s student accommodation (including Goldfish).

When should I arrive?

You can check into your accommodation from 10.00 am - 4.30 pm on the start date printed on your tenancy agreement. If you need to check-in before this date, you must
make arrangements with the individual Student Accommodation Teams by calling 0870 600 4777. Check-in times for early and late tenancy start dates are conducted within normal office hours, Monday - Friday by the Student Accommodation Team.

CSH does not check-in students outside normal office hours, unless advanced prior arrangements have been made with the individual Student Accommodation Teams. If you do arrive outside normal office hours and no one is available, you will have to find your own alternative accommodation for the evening.

Your property will be open for check-in on the day your tenancy starts (as stated on your tenancy agreement) and where appropriate the subsequent weekend. Near the time, you will be sent move in information by your Student Accommodation Team.

On your commencement date you may experience some check-in delays, unfortunately some people take longer than others and may have more questions to ask at check-in times. You can help us by ensuring that all your paperwork, including 2 signed copies of the contract, (you will receive “your” copy back in your Welcome Pack) payment option form, direct debit mandate and credit/card details are returned to us as soon as possible. If all this information is returned in advance you can fast track and pick up your Welcome Pack, Keys and start your student living experience.

Where do I collect my mail from?

All mail is delivered by Royal Mail direct to your flat, by the area Postman. If you are living in Halls, parcels and recorded mail should be collected and signed for, from the Reception Desk at your Student Accommodation Team.

Reception Desks are generally open at the following times:

Monday to Friday between 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm
(these times may vary, depending on your Student Accommodation Team office).

How do I report a repair?

Please call down to the Reception Desk at your Student Accommodation Team office and complete a Repair Enquiry Form. Or you can always telephone your Team on 0870 600 4777. You can also report a repair online at www.cosmostudents.com/repairs

How do I report a complaint?

Again, please call down to the Reception Desk at your Student Accommodation Team office. If someone can’t see you immediately you can complete an Enquiry Report Form to make an appointment to see your Property Manager.

What payment arrangements do you offer?

You can pay in either 1, 3, 4, 7, or 11 instalments.

What is included in my rent?

Single en-suite accommodation and shared facilities:
The rent includes and Personal Contents Insurance. (Insurance details are available on CSH’s website). However, it does not include your Internet connection.

Self-contained accommodation:
You are responsible for your own utility bills and setting up your account.

What do I do if I am having problems paying my rent?

Don’t struggle with this problem, come and speak to us as soon as possible, as we may be able to help you. You can always contact CSH’s Rent Arrears Officer, Kevin Saunderson, to discuss a payment plan.

What is a Guarantor?

A Guarantor is a person who is legally obliged to pay the rent in case the student is unable to. The Guarantor must be over 18 years of age, in full-time employment and be a resident of the UK.

Do I have to pay for my TV Licence

If you are bringing a TV (or anything else able to receive or record TV programmes, such as video/dvd recorders, set top boxes or PC’s with tuner cards), you’ll need a TV Licence. Otherwise you could be prosecuted and fined up to £1,000. It may be worthwhile you waiting until you move into the accommodation and get together with your flat mates, to organise a licence.

The TV licensing authorities recognise that most students do not need the final three months of their licence as they leave their accommodation during the Summer. You may be able to receive a refund, provided that you don’t need your licence again before it expires.

Can I connect to the Internet in my room?

Yes, Broadband is available in CSH’s student accommodation. Full details of the packages available will be provided in your Welcome Pack, on arrival. Internet prices are regularly updated on CSH’s website.

Can I stay in my room during the holidays?

Your student letting agreement covers the use of your room for the length of your contract, which includes the Christmas and Easter holidays. If you would like to stay on site during the Summer holidays, arrangements can be made with the Property Manager at your Student Accommodation Team.

Can I move into my friend’s flat?

If you want to change your room for any reason with CSH’s accommodation this can be arranged, subject to availability. The first few weeks of term are not a good time for moving but CSH will try and help you transfer later on. An administration fee of £50.00 is made for moving rooms.
